Hard Drive
Hard drive is a storage media that is always there in the computer, and a place to install Operating System on your computer, if the harddrive is damaged, then your data can be lost and you or your computer is not functioning properly. For that, you can perform maintenance on hard drives with the following procedure:

Scandisk is a utility included in windows to conduct an examination of mediastorage, and repair if there are damaged. In Windows XP , you can run this facility by way of: a). Activate windows explorer, b) Right click on yourname which will scandisk Drive, choose Properties, c) Click the Tools tab, then click the Check Now, Please follow the next command. Keep in mind, this scandiskprocess can take a long time, depending on the capacity and condition of your hard drive. If the capacity is small, eg 20 GB and pretty good condition (no bad sectors), itcan be completed in about 15 minutes.
- The next step , that can be done in caring harrdrive is the process Defrag (Disk Defragmenter), this event aims to straighten the location of the files contained within storage media thathave undergone fragmentation . For example, a file that is located in sector x, but after you do the activity on the filewill move to sector y, and many sectors are empty as a result . That's what tools are needed, as well as straighten the layout of files on your harddrive,this means being able to accelerate the performance of your hard drive. Tools are also available on your windows operating system, by clicking Start -> All Programs-> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter.
